How to Find a Nutritionist in Gibraltar (Practical Guide)

How to Find a Nutritionist from Gibraltar

I’ve spent close to half my life in Gibraltar. Although I’m Swiss-Gibraltarian and now based in Barcelona, Gibraltar still feels like home. The Mediterranean Steps remains one of my favourite walks anywhere in Europe, and some of my closest friendships, memories, and formative years are tied to the Rock. Working with people from Gibraltar also brings back a sense of connection to a place that still feels like home. It is a reminder of where many important friendships, memories, and chapters of my life were shaped.

It’s a unique place. But when it comes to nutrition support, the reality is simple: options are limited.

That doesn’t mean you can’t get good help. You just need to know where to look and what to prioritise.

Why nutrition support matters in Gibraltar

This isn’t just theoretical. There are real signals that nutrition support is needed.

Research has shown relatively high levels of overweight and obesity in children in Gibraltar, with around 20%+ overweight and ~10% obese in younger populations.

More recent data suggests the trend continues, with up to 35% of children at an unhealthy weight by the end of primary school.

This extends beyond weight. Adult diabetes prevalence in Gibraltar is ~9.7%, higher than the UK (~6%), with recorded cases rising from 1489 (2009) to 2044 (2015), highlighting a clear need for better lifestyle and nutrition support.

That’s not a “lack of willpower” issue. It’s environment, habits, and guidance.

And that’s where working with the right nutritionist actually matters. And that’s where working with the right nutritionist actually matters. Sport is a big part of life in Gibraltar, from general fitness to football and especially padel, with courts often busy. It adds another layer where nutrition directly impacts performance, recovery, and energy levels.

The reality: limited local options

Gibraltar is small. That comes with trade-offs.

  • Very few specialised nutritional therapists

  • Limited private practice availability

  • Long waiting times depending on provider

  • Often general advice rather than personalised strategy

If you’re looking for something structured, evidence-based, and tailored, you’ll likely feel the gap quite quickly.

What to look for in a nutritionist

If you do search locally or online, filter properly. Most people don’t.

Focus on:

1. Qualifications that mean something
Look for recognised training and avoid generic “nutrition coach” labels.

2. Practical, not extreme advice
If it sounds like trends, detoxes, or rigid rules, walk away.

3. Personalisation
Your lifestyle in Gibraltar is specific. Climate, food access, social habits. A good practitioner adapts to that.

4. Food-first approach
Supplements can help, but they’re not the foundation. If that’s the starting point, it’s a red flag.

Online support: the practical solution

This is where things have shifted.

You’re no longer limited to what’s physically available in Gibraltar.

Online nutritional therapy works well because:

  • You get access to a wider pool of qualified practitioners

  • Sessions are flexible around work and family

  • Follow-up and accountability are often better

  • You can build a long-term strategy, not just one-off advice

This is how most of my Gibraltar-based clients now work with me.

My approach (if you want structured support)

Given my background with Gibraltar and working internationally, I focus on:

  • Clear, realistic nutrition strategies

  • No extremes, no unnecessary restriction

  • Performance, energy, and long-term health

  • Food first, supplements only where justified

Everything is adapted to real life. Not ideal scenarios.

Bottom line

Many of my Gibraltar-based clients now work with me online from my practice in Barcelona, but our conversations often start with the same familiar references: busy schedules, family life, padel, Levante winds, and life on the Rock. That connection still means a lot to me.

Finding a nutritionist in Gibraltar is possible. Finding the right one locally, with the right qualifications, experience, and a genuinely personalised approach, is often harder.

If you prioritise evidence-based guidance, practical advice, and someone who understands real life in Gibraltar, you’ll avoid most of the noise.

And if local options fall short, online support is no longer a compromise. It’s often the better option. If you want to explore what this could look like for you, you can book a free 15-minute call with me or contact me directly on WhatsApp.
